Wind Damage to Shingles: NH Homeowner Guide

· New Hampshire exteriors

Straight-line wind along I-93 and the Seacoast lifts shingle tabs every year. A few lifted courses can be repaired; widespread creasing often means the field is done.

What to look for from the ground

  • Missing or flipped tabs on the west- or south-facing slope
  • Creased shingles that lay flat but are folded at the seal strip
  • Granule streaks on driveways or in gutters after the storm
  • Displaced ridge cap or hip shingles

Document it

Photos with date, wide shots of each slope, and close-ups of damage. Note if damage is isolated or across the whole field.

If a tree branch caused impact, photograph the branch and the point of contact.

Repair vs full slope

Matching color on a 15-year-old roof is hard — we are honest when a patch will look like a patch.

Widespread creasing on an aging roof often points to replacement; we write both options when it is close.
