Walk the perimeter
- Look for sagging runs or separated seams
- Check downspout outlets — water should leave the foundation
- Clear obvious debris if you can do it safely from a ladder
- Note rust, holes, or pull-away fascia screws
- Confirm splash blocks or extensions direct water away
When cleaning is not enough
Older sectional gutters on tall two-stories often leak at seams every few years. Seamless aluminum with correctly sized outlets handles New Hampshire downpours better.
If fascia is soft behind the gutter, fix the wood before hanging new metal — otherwise hangers pull out again.
