Seven signs
- Age past 20–25 years on standard architectural shingles (varies by exposure)
- Curling, clawing, or missing tabs across multiple slopes
- Granule piles in gutters or bare spots visible from the yard
- Daylight visible through roof deck boards in the attic
- Sagging ridge or soft decking at eaves after ice seasons
- Repeated leak repairs in different rooms — systemic failure
- Neighbor roofs on the same build year are being replaced
Repair can still work when
Damage is isolated — one slope, a tree branch impact, flashing at a single penetration.
The rest of the field shingles are pliable with granules intact and the deck is sound.
Plan before emergency season
Fall is ideal for scheduling in New Hampshire — before ice dam season and before spring backlog.
